TUKE

This art piece is inspired by the song Tuka Kamera from Šaban Bayramović,  Gypsy King, a legendary gypsy singer known worldwide. The song speaks about love, longing, and desperation, as the singer pleads with his beloved, asking why she doesn’t come to him and expressing that he will die if she doesn’t. Tuka Kamera translates to I’m going to die.

Inspired by the song’s emotion, I painted a simplified donkey in a rich purple color, standing on a natural surface, such as a field. The donkey symbolizes resilience and endurance, as donkeys are incredibly tough animals capable of bearing heavy burdens. This serves as a metaphor for the song—just as the donkey carries weight without breaking, the singer bears the emotional weight of love and longing, yet it becomes unbearable without his beloved. The painting combines purple with a fluorescent green-yellow hue, though not too intense, creating a striking yet balanced visual harmony.

Additionally, the painting has an unfinished effect, but this was intentional. I chose to leave it as it was because, at that moment, my emotions told me that this story doesn’t end—neither in the form of painting, nor in love, nor in real life.
