This art piece holds significant meaning for me as it represents a pivotal moment in history that wasn’t too long ago. I watched a YouTube video of Rizo Hamidović, a Bosnian singer, performing in 2000 at a restaurant called Crystal Palace in New York. He was welcomed by Bosniak refugees who had fled Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 90s. What struck me deeply was that he arrived in a 90s Mercedes, dressed in traditional Bosniak attire, and was greeted by people who never imagined they would be in New York, welcoming a fellow Bosnian as refugees. Inspired by this remarkable moment, I decided to paint the entrance of the restaurant in a simplified, architectural style, calling the piece Crystal Palace 2000.
