This art piece is inspired by my exploration of Google Earth and the digital way of viewing the world. In my free time, I enjoy discovering new places through satellite imagery, studying landscapes, reliefs, and the Earth’s unique characteristics. One day, I came across a group of islands near Vietnam that appeared pixelated due to low-resolution satellite images. The islands were not clearly visible, which intrigued me. I took a screenshot and used it as the basis for this painting, reinterpreting the islands and adding pictorial elements that I imagined would enhance the composition.
This piece is deeply connected to digital art and the experience of viewing the world through a screen. I transformed that digital perspective into an analog, material canvas, shifting from a virtual image to a tangible artwork. The canvas itself mirrors a digital display, capturing the way I see Google Earth. To reinforce this idea, I included an important symbolic element—my feet, inspired by the stylized feet seen in Orthodox fresco icons. Placing the Earth as a flat surface beneath them transforms the composition, suggesting a sacred connection between the observer and the world, as if viewing the planet from a divine or transcendent perspective.
