Competition for the design of a monument to the fallen victims of war, workers of the Kombiteks company, as part of the Krak Art Gallery.
The goal was to create a structure that, through architectural, shaped, and spatial configuration, manifests the totality of human action within space and collectives. The monument speaks about a man, his contribution to the collective, and, ultimately, to collective progress and social progress.
COME, SEE, FEEL, TOUCH, SIT, THINK,
Architecture & Sculpture / The configuration is concentric, with prominent polycentricity and asymmetry.
Component A / ID: I know / 160 x 250 x 50 cm / W / H / L – A cubic layered, frontally oriented reinforced concrete element containing 56 names of the fallen victims of war—workers of the company Kombiteks. Component A* is a metaphor for the layering of the canvas, the third layering of the process, and the individuals who are the acprocess.
Component B / ID: Viewpoint * / 7 x 7 x 1 cm / W / L / H – The position from which you observe, the place of stopping and resting, from whose perspective you read the names to which the monument is dedicated. The position marking is in the form of * so that it integrates the logo of the Kombiteks factory, while also symbolizing the source of life and hope—a source of light in the darkness. Optimism.
Component C / ID: Life / 280 x 180 x 15 cm / L / H / W – A concrete wave that manifests an organic way of movement. The wave has 56 tiles of approximately 4×4 cm, which represent the 56 victims and employees of the Kombiteks factory. The tiles are the highlighted pixels of the wave, out of a total of 5000, and 5000 represent those who survived and remain as witnesses of the past.
Component D / ID: Materialization and Conservation / 90 x 2690 x 10 cm / L / H / W – A vertical linear cube of materialized reinforced concrete with a surface treated with a grid pattern. This element symbolizes an arbitrary process and the final product, which is conserved in a glass or plexiglass cube. The product takes the form of a collage made of parts of different fabrics that were produced in Kombiteks.
Thoughts / ID – Here Sits / 45 x 45 x 45 cm / H / W / L – The last point of retention, which has both a sculptural function and a furniture function. The cube is a negative of Component D and is made of layers of fabric trapped in concrete. It is colored, with blue representing the celestial dimension and stability, and orange representing optimism and vitality.
All these elements are placed on a reinforced concrete platform that acts as a pedestal.
